GEI first became involved with wind turbine research in the 1980s as a result of its research for the electric power industry on large transmission tower foundations. Builders of initial large wind turbines soon found that the foundation design of large single pole structures was a critical element of system design. GEI performed research into design and construction methods of large turbines foundations to determine cost effective designs.
