Joseph Engels, P.E., LSP Re-Joins GEI Consultants

BOSTON, Mass.—July 14, 2010 — GEI Consultants, Inc., one of the nation’s leading geotechnical, environmental, water resources, and ecological science and engineering firms, announced today that Joseph G. Engels, P.E., LSP has re-joined the firm as a vice president and senior practice leader, located in its headquarters in Woburn, Massachusetts. Mr. Engels had previously worked at GEI between 1976 and 1991.

With nearly 35 years of consulting engineering experience providing strategic advice to public and private sector clients, Mr. Engels will help lead geotechnical and environmental activities in GEI’s New England Region, with targeted outreach contributions to all divisions company-wide. His broad geotechnical engineering experience includes the investigation, design and construction of shallow and deep building foundations, dams, marine structures, braced excavations, dewatering and drainage systems, tunnels, roadways, and linear utility lines.  In addition, his contaminated site investigation and remediation experience includes extensive work under various state and federal regulatory requirements, including CERCLA, RCRA and the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP).  These services have been provided on several hundred sites including those for industrial manufacturing and commercial developments, power plants, former manufactured gas plant (MGP) sites, landfills, and linear utilities and transportation projects.  Mr. Engels has served as an expert witness for several construction and environmental cases and has provided due diligence consultation to industrial and commercial clients during merger and acquisition evaluations.

A registered professional engineer in nine eastern states  and a Licensed Site Professional (LSP) in Massachusetts, Mr. Engels received his bachelors degree in civil engineering from Manhattan College and his masters degree in civil engineering  from Cornell University. He is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the National Ground Water Association, the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Foundations Engineers, the American and Boston Societies of Civil Engineers, the Society of American Military Engineers, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties and the Environmental Business Council of New England. In addition he is an associate member of the Boston Bar Association and is a founder of the Licensed Site Professional Association.
