SACRAMENTO, Calif. — August 31, 2010 — GEI Consultants, Inc., one of the nation’s leading geotechnical, environmental, water resources, and ecological science and engineering firms, announced today it has been chosen by the Rainbow Municipal Water District (the District) to provide geotechnical engineering services in the pursuit of a Division of Safety of Dams (DSOD) operating permit for Beck Dam and Reservoir in Fallbrook, California. In response to the promulgation of the Long Term Two Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule, the District is considering changes to how it currently operates the open-air treated water storage at Beck Reservoir. The reservoir currently has the capacity to store 204 million gallons of water. GEI will complete an engineering study and provide opinions regarding the current condition of Beck Reservoir Dam. This includes any remedial work or studies required to obtain a DSOD operating permit. Specific tasks include a topographic survey, review of existing construction data, a seismic hazard analysis, engineering evaluations of the seismic stability of the dam, and evaluation of the hydraulic capacity of the spillway and outlet works. In addition, GEI will coordinate between the District and DSOD to complete the necessary application paperwork for the operating permit. The project will be completed in the fall of 2010.
