For over 30 years GEI has designed, installed, monitored, and analyzed geotechnical instrumentation for numerous projects throughout the United States. Among them are many difficult, critical civil works projects, including projects that have significantly advanced the state-of-the-art in geotechnical engineering. A notable example is our instrumentation of a number of sections of Boston’s massive Central Artery/Tunnel Project, the largest and one of the most technically challenging civil works project ever undertaken in the United States. GEI has installed and monitored optical surveys, inclinometers, tiltmeters, piezometers, crack monitors, strain gages, vibration monitors, and other instrumentation. GEI has used instrumentation in conjunction with excavation support and dewatering systems, underpinning and shoring designs, and open slopes to use an observational approach to establish limits and extent of the systems. |
