SACRAMENTO, Calif.—November 29, 2011—Sacramento, Calif. — November 28, 2011 — GEI Consultants, Inc., one of the nation’s leading geotechnical, environmental, water resources, and ecological science and engineering firms, announced today that Eliza Jane Whitman, P.E., LEED AP has been hired as vice president and Los Angeles Area Manager. This new position was created to unify and expand GEI’s service offerings in southern California. Reporting to Mr. Steven Verigin, P.E., senior vice president and Pacific region manager, Ms. Whitman brings more than 20 years of diverse experience in water and energy resources, civil engineering and infrastructure design, and operations. Her prior experience includes serving as vice president and director of sustainable strategies in the water and infrastructure sector for a 10,000 person global engineering and construction firm. Before returning to private practice, she was a senior manager with the Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA), a regional water and wastewater agency in Chino Basin that has long been recognized for its leadership in integrated resource management. There, she managed a diverse portfolio of projects and activities designed to help the agency and the region achieve its water and energy efficiency and reliability goals. “Eliza Jane’s broad experience as a civil engineer, sustainability expert and senior water manager, coupled with executive leadership experience in a global professional technical firm, gives her a broad perspective about the challenges being faced by the water sector,” said Verigin. “We are very excited that Eliza Jane is joining our management team and look forward to sharing her experience with our clients.” A Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Ms. Whitman has extensive experience integrating sustainable practices into facilities, public works and infrastructure projects, and business processes. Her diverse experience spans infrastructure planning and development, water and wastewater treatment systems design and optimization, groundwater and stormwater management, recycled water development, and regional watershed planning and management. While with IEUA, she directed the design and development of the world’s first LEED-platinum building to be developed by a public agency. She also managed pilot testing of several emerging energy technologies in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy, National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the California Energy Commission. Ms. Whitman, a registered professional engineer in California, received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in civil engineering from North Carolina State University. She is a member of the Advisory Boards of the University of Southern California and NCSU Civil Engineering Departments. She also serves on the Southern California Water Committee, the Stormwater Task Force, the Construction Industry Institute Sustainability Community of Practice, and the Water Environment Research Foundation’s subcommittee investigating practices and technologies for maximizing development of bio-methane.
