GEI’s David Miller Named President of California Irrigation Institute’s Board of Directors

March 20, 2012 —

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — March 20, 2012 — GEI Consultants, Inc., one of the nation’s leading geotechnical, environmental, water resources, and ecological science and engineering firms, announced that David Miller, PhD, P.E.,  has been elected president of the board of directors for the California Irrigation Institute (CII), California’s oldest-running independent forum on water and irrigation.

Dr. Miller is a principal engineer for GEI and has more than 32 years of water resource engineering experience. He has worked throughout the United States and overseas, and for the past 14 years has focused his career on California water resource issues, including preparing successful state and federal grant applications to fund California’s urban and agricultural districts. He is also actively involved with the San Carlos Irrigation Diversion and Conveyance Rehabilitation Project in Coolidge, Arizona.

The California Irrigation Institute’s core objectives are to advance knowledge relating to both urban and agricultural irrigation, improve irrigation practices, increase the public’s appreciation for the importance of water to California's economy, strengthen cooperation among those interested in irrigation and water management issues, and to heighten professional and social interaction between the irrigation community and water policy leaders. As president, Miller works closely with board members and other partners to organize CII’s annual conference, which focuses on irrigation issues throughout California.
“My involvement with the California Irrigation Institute has been a rewarding experience and is one that I’m eager to continue,” said Miller. “Since being elected to the board of directors in 2009, the irrigation issues facing the state continue to demand a forum where urban and agricultural water management issues can be discussed in a thoughtful and comprehensive manner. As president, I intend to expand CII’s presence as an active force for improving irrigation management in California.”

Miller holds a Ph.D. in Biological and Agricultural Engineering from North Carolina State University and a master’s of science in Irrigation Engineering from Utah State University. Miller is also a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where he earned a B.A. in English Literature.
