GEI Consultants Completes Assignments Along Connecticut Coastline

April 11, 2012 —

GLASTONBURY, Conn. — April 11, 2012 — GEI Consultants, Inc., one of the nation’s leading geotechnical, environmental, water resources, and ecological science and engineering firms announced today that it has completed two projects in Connecticut.

New London Hurricane Protection System Certification
City of New London, Connecticut
GEI Consultants, Inc. was selected by the City of New London, Connecticut to perform levee accreditation services for the New London Hurricane Protection System as mandated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The accreditation process is an important evaluation for ensuring compliance with the flood control requirements set forth in the Code of Federal Regulations (44CFR 65.10).  GEI and its subcontractors provided survey services to create topographic mapping of the flood control system, and land record research to confirm ownership and levee encroachment issues. The team completed inspections and evaluations of components within the hurricane barrier system including earthen levees, concrete floodwalls, a vehicular closure gate, a pumping station, underground conduits, and associated sluice gates and valves. GEI also reviewed and updated the City of New London’s Maintenance and Operations Plans for its Hurricane Protection System.

Amtrak Bridge Nos. 135.51 and 135.67 Improvements Project
West and East Harbor, Stonington, Connecticut
GEI Consultants, Inc. was selected by Jacobs Engineering to provide geotechnical engineering and investigation services for Amtrak Bridge Nos. 135.51 and 135.57 over West and East Harbor in Stonington, Connecticut. The site consists of an active Amtrak commuter railroad embankment located on a causeway in Stonington Harbor. Following Amtrak’s decision to replace both bridges, GEI coordinated and supervised the geotechnical subsurface investigation within a railroad right-of-way that involved facilitating daily task-specific job safety briefings. Despite drilling times limited to a small overnight window between train passings, the subsurface exploration program was completed on time.
