June 28, 2006 —
Boston, Mass. — GEI Consultants, one of the nation’s leading geotechnical, environmental, and water resources engineering firms, announced today that it was honored with two Marketing Communications awards at the annual Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) Boston Awards Gala. GEI’s new corporate identity program won first place in the Corporate Identity Category. The judges indicated that “this is a very simple yet rich concept. The use of color and/or image to suggest service areas is very effective.” Also, “the reference to company history combined with a clean design aesthetic is very effective. The logo evolution mailer is excellent.” Additionally, GEI’s new corporate identity was selected by the attendees at the SMPS Boston Awards Gala for the People’s Choice Award. “Our existing logo and corporate identify was dated and tired. Our objective was to create a new image that would communicate our successful ownership transition, and the new leadership, including the youthfulness and vitality that came with the new generation of leadership, while still respecting and honoring our past. The choice of red was a bold statement for a traditional engineering firm,” said Kelly Cohane, corporate marketing manager at GEI Consultants. The invitation for the firm’s 35th Anniversary Party won an honorable mention and was described as “very elegant” and “very professional” with “beautiful images and elegant layout." “As we had recently launched a new corporate identity program, centered on our new logo, and we wanted the invitation not only to recognize our past, but also our transition into the future. Our corporate identity program has incorporated man-made and natural images that invoke the nested circles of our new logo. These types of images were incorporated into the invitation design with the rose, corkscrew, chandelier, and glasses,” added Cohane. Both the corporate identity program and the 35th Anniversary invitation were designed by Guarino Design Group.
