SWPPP and SPCC Plans for Multiple Facilities

Anheuser-Busch, Inc. (A-B) selected GEI to conduct facility inspections and prepare updated Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans for 11 of its breweries, 8 of its can plants, and 5 of its agricultural facilities across the United States.

GEI provided environmental services to evaluate oil storage practices and associated maintenance procedures at the A-B facilities. Members of GEI’s project team conducted site visits at each plant. Walk throughs of each oil storage and equipment location were performed. Current inspection logs, training logs, and tank integrity testing records were also evaluated as part of each site inspection.

As part of the compliance evaluation process, GEI reviewed facility compliance with the federal regulations, as well as applicable state regulations. Notification procedures for any municipal wastewater treatment plants and local emergency response committees were also incorporated into the updated plans.

SPCC Plans and associated inspection/testing protocols were prepared for each A-B facility. Industry testing standards developed by the Steel Tank Institute (STI) were utilized to meet the regulatory requirements, while creating the least impact upon existing plant operations.

A-B retained GEI to provide ongoing services to ensure that A-B facilities remain in compliance with the applicable regulations. As part of these services, a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) was prepared for one of the breweries to ensure regulatory compliance. A City Spill Plan was implemented for another facility. As an additional example, GEI is providing site-specific lists of qualified contractors who are able to perform tank integrity tests for specific tank applications.

GEI prioritized the sequence of inspections to coincide with A-B auditing schedules. All plans were submitted within A-B’s schedule and budget requirements.

GEI is also benchmarking inspection and training procedures at the various A-B facilities. Best management practices (BMPs) are being shared to promote continuity and efficient EHS management between the various A-B breweries, can plants, printing facilities, and agricultural plants.
