Water Supply Permit Application

The primary objective of the project was to prepare the permit application package and acquire a water supply permit to add a new well. The existing Fishers Island Water Works system in New York State is a small municipal utility that needed to increase its water supply due to projected population increases, a low yielding supply well, and high water usage in summer months.

Consulting services included a review of the existing system, analysis of existing pump test data, preparation of an engineering report and appropriate permit application forms, and follow up with the New York State Department of Regulatory Affairs to acquire the permit.

The engineering report accompanying the permit application forms included the following elements: a description of the current water supply system, including current and projected future demands, a water balance discussion for the well field area, the radius of influence of the new supply well, the capture zone for the water supply system, identification of potentially impacted wetlands and contamination sources, and a salt water intrusion monitoring plan with action levels.

Other consulting services included a detailed evaluation of the current water supply system, review of island hydrogeological information, and consultation with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Water Supply and Regulatory Affairs Departments.
