Due Diligence Audits

GEI performed environmental compliance and assessment audits of electrical and mechanical contracting business potentially to be purchased by Xcelecom, a division of The United Illuminating Company. Audits have been completed for over 20 business locations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Florida, and Maryland.

The audits included site inspections, company file reviews, electronic database and file reviews, and governmental agency file reviews.

Each audit addressed the following areas:

• Storage tanks
• Chemical storage
• Hazardous waste management
• Waste oil management
• Wastewater discharges
• Polychlorinated biphenyls
• Air emissions
• Stormwater
• Solid waste
• Community right-to-know
• OSHA regulations, inspections and violations
• OSHA hazard communication standard

To facilitate the assessment of each business, GEI developed a pre-audit questionnaire that was completed by each business prior to GEI’s site inspection. The compliance portions of the site inspections and audits were facilitated by GEI’s use of checklists prepared using Dakota Software Company’s auditing software. All audits were completed in accordance with a compressed schedule to meet Xcelecom’s acquisition project deadlines.
