July 8, 2009 —
WASHINGTON, DC. - July 8, 2009 - GEI Consultants, Inc., one of the nation's leading geotechnical, environmental, water resources, and ecological science and engineering firms, announced today that it has been selected by Coastal Caisson Corp./Bauer to perform geostructural engineering services at the new ThyssenKrupp steel processing facility in Calvert, Alabama. GEI will provide design services for a 150-foot diameter, 100-foot deep diaphragm wall shaft. The shaft will be designed as a circular compression ring and will not require additional anchorage for stability. Design challenges include unbalanced loading conditions and wall tunnel penetrations. The shaft will serve as temporary excavation support during the 100-foot deep excavation for the construction of the water treatment plant, and will become a wet-well for the plant after construction is completed. The shaft will be constructed using reinforced concrete panels, for which GEI will provide engineering support and observation during the panels' installation, excavation, tie-down installation and testing phases. GEI will also analyze and design a reinforced concrete base slab supported by permanent tiedowns for the construction of the permanent processing plant structure. During construction, GEI will provide field engineering services to assist the contractor's staff. About GEI Consultants, Inc. |
