GEI Consultants Selected as Environmental Consultant by City of Boston

March 7, 2011 —

BOSTON — GEI Consultants, Inc., one of the nation’s leading geotechnical, environmental, water resources, and ecological science and engineering firms, announced today that it has been selected to perform environmental consulting services on an as-needed basis by the City of Boston, Department of Neighborhood Development Real Estate Management and Sales Division (DND REMS). The contract is for three years.

The assignment will include all manner of environmental investigations required to fulfill the needs of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MA DEP), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (U.S. HUD), and related lending institutions. GEI was chosen because of its demonstrated and substantial experience in managing and executing environmental consulting projects for these agencies. Having on-staff Licensed Site Professionals (LSPs) was a requirement for selection.

The DND REMS, which manages the City of Boston’s real estate holdings, acquires properties through other City departments or through tax foreclosure. Its mission is to create new housing, identify sites for potential capital construction projects, develop small neighborhood businesses, and generate homeownership opportunities. An integral part of this management process is to obtain neighborhood consensus on the reuse and redevelopment of these properties. Through environmental assessment and cleanup, environmental restoration is prioritized by current and projected development opportunities.
