Field collection of biological data includes sampling of fish populations (electrofishing, seines, trap nets), benthic invertebrate sampling (Hess sampler, Surber sampler, kick nets, Ponar dredge, drift nets, Ekman grab, etc.), algal populations (plankton nets, rock scrapings), and habitat assessments (habitat typing and mapping, channel configuration, depth and velocity measurements, substrate particle size, pebble counts). When collected before a planned activity, these field data often comprise the baseline conditions against which subsequent sampling and trends are measured. GEI has expertise in these and other field data collection sampling techniques. |
