FERC Relicensing

Hydropower is an important source of renewable energy and is regulated through the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). In addition to dams built specifically to provide hydropower, many older dams (such as those originally constructed for irrigation or water supply storage) were retrofitted to provide hydro capabilities following the energy crisis in the 1970s. Relicensing these hydro facilities under FERC regulations necessitates a multi-disciplinary, detailed analysis of the biology and associated environmental conditions downstream as well as in the reservoir itself, services offered by GEI.
