This 150 foot high wind turbine was funded in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and the IBEW as a model for turbine energy use and a training facility for the union. GEI performed a geotechnical investigation and designed the pile supported foundations and tower for the 100 Kilowatt turbine. The site is located in filled land within the former south bay of Boston. Foundation design evaluated the difficulties of manmade obstructions and construction of deep elements within soft soils. The design also required an evaluation of the dynamic performance of the deep foundations to match stiffness criteria required to operate the turbine. Work included:
