Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation - Vermont Yankee

GEI performed a preliminary seismic assessment of the foundation soils for the proposed Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) at the Vermont Yankee plant located in Vernon, Vermont. The assessment included estimating dynamic soil properties, performing a dynamic soil response analysis, evaluating liquefaction potential, and developing conceptual designs for the ISFSI foundation. The computer program SHAKE was used to evaluate the ground motion propagation through the foundation soils for several different earthquake records, and GEI determined that the ISFSI foundation could be safely constructed by placing the foundation over a six-foot-thick layer of compacted structural fill.
