GEI’s Sam Merrill co-authored a research article detailing New Frontiers for Familiar Tools for Climate Adaptation Finance Mechanisms, addressing several principles and targeting the core issue of who benefits and who pays for climate adaptation mechanisms. The research article appears in the Journal of Ocean and Coastal Economics.

The article detailed the U.S infrastructure-climate dilemma and elaborated on the state of the financial challenge of replacing the country’s water system over the next few decades, while mentioning that the aging framework in the United States has still yet to elicit a comprehensive response from any level of government. The piece then detailed principles of several new finance mechanisms and expanded on how to design local projects to integrate revenue generation and benefits for the future.
