Michael Bachand, P.E.
Senior Engineer/Water Practice LeaderMichael Bachand is a senior geotechnical engineer with more than 26 years of experience in both the private and federal sectors. He currently serves as a senior engineer and Water Practice Leader at GEI, where he provides consulting, program and project management, senior technical review, and guidance on complex water resources and geotechnical engineering projects. He brings extensive expertise in federal policy and the implementation of national water-resources initiatives focused on dams and levees.
Before joining GEI, Mike held several key positions with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). He served as the New England District Levee Safety Program Manager and as the Dam & Levee Safety Officer, where he was responsible for all dam and levee safety decisions for over 32 dams and 62 levee systems. Mike was part of a select team at USACE Headquarters charged with developing the National Levee Safety Program. In this role, he led nationwide stakeholder engagement efforts, supported federal agencies, state dam and levee safety offices, and local levee owners in making critical investment decisions on dams and levees, and was responsible for the development of several key national level products.
Mike holds both a Bachelor and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Massachusetts and Louisiana.
