Pasadena, CA (September 16, 2021) – Lorena Manríquez, P.E., has joined GEI Consultants as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer. Based in GEI’s Pasadena, California office, Lorena brings to GEI 20 years of experience in engineering studies for a variety of projects. Her most recent experience includes airports, railroads, bridges, wastewater treatment facilities, commercial development, and dams. In addition, she has worked on port and harbor facilities, roadways, landfills, electrical substations and transmission lines, residential buildings, water tanks, and communication tower projects.

“Having Lorena join our team brings us closer toward the strategic goal to grow GEI’s Southern California geotechnical and dam practice,” says Iqbal Ahmed, GEI’s Senior Project Manager. “She brings a wide range of experience in the geotechnical field and I am thrilled she has joined GEI. We are looking forward to her becoming an integral part of our team.”

Throughout her career Lorena has been responsible for subsurface and groundwater investigations, instrumentation studies, geotechnical data interpretation and site characterization, foundation analysis and design, slope stability analyses, earthquake engineering analyses, preparation of geotechnical reports and specifications, and foundation and earthwork observation and testing during construction. Lorena is experienced in developing site improvement and remediation solutions, including lime treatment and has been involved with deep dynamic compaction and rapid impact compaction. Lorena performed geotechnical engineering post-earthquake assessments within NAWS China Lake days after the two earthquakes struck Ridgecrest, CA with magnitudes 6.4 and 7.1, respectively.

“I’m very excited to be joining the GEI team,” says Lorena. “With accelerating climate change and the current drought conditions affecting California and the entire West, I look forward to working with GEI in essential water infrastructure projects.”

Lorena is a licensed Professional Engineer in California. She earned her Master’s in Civil and Geotechnical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and her Bachelors in Geophysics and Physical Engineering from Washington and Lee University. She is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Geo-Institute of ASCE, the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), and the California Geotechnical Engineering Association (CalGeo).
