Michael J. Chow, P.E. Joins GEI as a Geo-Structural Practice Lead

A recognized expert in foundation and support of excavation brings his expertise to GEI

New York, NY (July 14, 2021) – Michael J. Chow, P.E. has joined GEI Consultants as a Geo-Structural Practice Lead working in GEI’s New York City, NY office. Michael brings more than 35 years of geo-structural engineering experience related to soil-structure interaction and marine construction.

“We are excited to have Mike join our NYC practice. His experience in the field and in NYC brings a wealth of knowledge to our Geo-Structural and Contractor Support practices,” says Asher Peltz, GEI’s New York City Branch Manager.

Michael has managed and supervised the design of deep and shallow foundations, underpinning, support of excavation, marine cofferdams, and rip-rap slope stabilization. He is also experienced in developing contract drawings and specifications, and he has provided peer reviews on various projects.  Michael supervises construction inspection services, including condition surveys, support of excavation and underpinning installations, pile load testing, deep and shallow foundation installations, and waterfront diver and boat inspections. He has contributed to projects of various scale, including small yet technically challenging projects, such as the Hyatt Regency Cleveland building strengthening in Cleveland, OH.  Michael’s large-scale project experience includes the SUNY Buffalo – School of Medicine and Biological Sciences Support of Excavation and Foundations in Buffalo, New York, and drilled shaft foundations for Columbia University’s Manhattanville Campus expansion in New York, New York.

Michael holds an M.E. in Civil Engineering from The City College of New York and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York, Washington DC, and New Jersey. He has served in technical and leadership positions on various committees for the ASCE, DFI and The Moles.
