Resource Management Associates (RMA) Celebrates 50th Anniversary
October 22, 2024Davis, CA, October 22, 2024 – Resource Management Associates (RMA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of GEI Consultants, is celebrating fifty years of supporting water resource management and environmental stewardship. Founded in 1974 by Gerald Orlob, Bill Norton, and Ian King, RMA’s initial goal was to apply state-of-the-art computer-aided modelling to water resource management.
From the beginning, RMA staff developed and applied numerical models to the simulation of hydrodynamics, water quality and temperature, sediment transport, and groundwater. Over the years RMA staff have worked on a wide range of modeling projects including nuclear waste isolation, frost heave in chilled gas pipelines, and even solar winds.
“RMA’s distinctive strength lies in our ability to both design and implement sophisticated engineering software and conduct large-scale numerical modeling studies,” says John DeGeorge, PhD., P.E., President of RMA. “This unique combination enables us to deliver exceptional value to our clients by enhancing existing models or creating entirely new solutions for complex and emerging challenges in water resource management.”
RMA’s team of experts joined GEI Consultants in January 2023.
Over the past fifty years, RMA has experienced the evolution of computer technology from the use of punch cards in 1974 to cloud computing today. Beginning with the development of computational models for water resources problems, the firm’s scope of software development has expanded to include graphical user interfaces, geo-referenced mapping, database systems, client-server systems, and mobile web applications.
“Looking ahead, RMA is excited to continue supporting our existing clients while expanding our reach in collaboration with GEI,” says John. “The RMA/Davis office will remain focused on water resources numerical modeling, advancing technologies that range from high-resolution physics-based models to fast, efficient machine learning models. We will also continue to enhance supporting software systems, including pre- and post-processing tools, web-accessible databases, and cloud computing solutions.”
