Former MGP Design-Build Remediation & Redevelopment

The site is a former MGP Site and adjacent canal. It is owned by a third party and is an industrial and commercial property. Prior to GEI’s engagement with the client, a history of delays had led the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) to propose a remedy at a substantial cost to the client.

Key Challenges

GEI proposed a ROD amendment that consisted of a revised remedial approach including in-situ soil stabilization, limited building removal, and more efficient system of passive NAPL recovery trenches and wells that GEI gained approval by NYSDEC for a ROD amendment that equated to a cost avoidance without increasing schedule or increasing their risk. GEI completed the design-build remediation as the environmental consultant, lead entity, and engineer of record.
