Meet Gei's

Caleb DeChant, Ph.D., P.E.

Senior Water Resources Engineer

Caleb DeChant, Ph.D., P.E., is a Senior Water Resources Engineer with more than 15 years of experience developing and applying hydrometeorological and probabilistic modeling tools for water supply forecasting, flood risk assessment, and drought analysis. He specializes in ensemble and Monte Carlo methods, data assimilation, and operational forecasting systems that support real-time water management decisions.

Prior to joining GEI, Dr. DeChant worked at Resource Management Associates, where he led development of computational and visualization tools for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Hydrologic Engineering Center applications, including HEC-ResSim, HEC-WAT, HEC-SSP, HEC-HMS, REGI, and HEC-MetVue. His work bridges research and operations, bringing advanced statistical and probabilistic methods into production forecasting environments used by federal agencies and water districts. He has extensive experience developing operational water supply forecasts for irrigation districts and adding new forecast processes to the National Weather Service Community Hydrologic Prediction System.

Dr. DeChant is recognized for integrating rigorous hydrologic science with practical decision-support tools for complex water systems.
