GEI to provide Construction Management for the Anderson Dam Seismic Retrofit Project

San Jose, CA, October 28, 2025 – The Santa Clara Valley Water District (Valley Water) has selected GEI to provide construction management services for the Anderson Dam Seismic Retrofit Project. This vital infrastructure project will include removal of most of the existing embankment dam and replacing it with a new dam that meets updated seismic safety standards.
Originally built in 1950, the Anderson Dam is the largest reservoir in Valley Water’s service area providing water to the region. In 2011, a seismic stability evaluation indicated that the dam could become unstable during a large magnitude earthquake. As a result, a storage restriction of approximately 55 feet below the dam crest was put in place to protect the public.
For the Seismic Retrofit Project, GEI’s team of experts will oversee construction of the new dam embankment, spillway, high-level and low-level outlet works, pipeline realignments, and modifications to roadways and recreational facilities.
“This project represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to strengthen critical water infrastructure and enhance public safety for the communities of Santa Clara County,” said Violletta McDaniel, Vice President and Construction Management Practice Leader at GEI.
“Our team brings deep expertise in large-scale dam and water infrastructure projects, and we’re proud to partner with Valley Water to help deliver a resilient and sustainable solution for the region,” says Dan Wade, GEI’s Senior Vice President and Principal-in-Charge.
“We are excited to have GEI augment our team as we prepare for the construction phase of this critical, multi-year megaproject,” says Ryan McCarter, Deputy Operating Officer for Valley Water.
Once completed, the rebuilt Anderson Dam will enable Valley Water to fully restore reservoir operations, increase public safety, and secure a safe and reliable water supply for future generations.
