Contaminated sites expert Carissa Mason joins GEI in Carlsbad, California

Environmental engineer brings experience in remediation and hazardous waste management

Carlsbad, CA (April 30, 2024) – Senior Engineer Carissa Mason, P.E., has joined GEI Consultants. Carissa brings two decades of experience advancing contaminated sites through the regulatory process from characterization, to remediation, to closure.

“Carissa efficiently manages staff and activities for contaminated sites to accomplish short- and long-term project goals effectively,” says Rick Ahlers, P.E., Principal Engineer, West Region Environmental Remediation Lead/Oil & Gas Operations Lead at GEI. “She is an exceptional project and program manager who brings consistency to projects and client portfolios. Carissa will enhance GEI’s ability to provide high quality technical work while adhering to stringent safety standards and permitting requirements.”

Carissa has expertise in project and program management with remedial regulatory agencies in California, Utah, and Idaho. She is also experienced working in hazardous / universal waste management and stormwater compliance in California.

“I was drawn to GEI for its collaborative, inclusive, and flexible company culture,” says Carissa. “I hope to bring a varied perspective to the team from the experience I’ve had working on large remediation portfolios over the last several years.”

Carissa holds a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from San Diego State University as well as a Master of Arts in Environmental Science and Policy and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication & Culture and Graphic Design, both from Clark University. Her thesis, Methane Production from Anaerobic Co-Digestion of Chlorella vulgaris and Wastewater Sludge, was awarded the 2012 Student Research Symposium Dean’s Award for the College of Engineering.
