GEI Consultants Announces Twenty Staff Promoted to Senior Consultants and Managers

Boston, Mass. – July 13, 2016 – GEI Consultants, Inc., one of the nation’s leading geotechnical, environmental, water resources, and ecological science and engineering firms, announced today that 20 staff have been promoted to senior consultants.

Asher H. Peltz, P.E., Senior Project Manager in GEI’s New York, NY office. Asher has 12 years of experience with geotechnical engineering projects and is responsible for project management and technical supervision of the geotechnical instrumentation for various buildings, bridge, and tunneling projects throughout New York City and the Northeast. His career has been primarily in dense, urban areas focusing on maintaining the structural integrity of new construction and adjacent structures. He is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and currently sits on the board of the Metropolitan Section.

Barry G. Scott, R.P.A., Senior Archaeologist in GEI’s Sacramento, CA office. Barry has 30 years of experience in the industry and specializes in consulting with various state, local, and federal agencies, Native Americans, and client representatives, especially to address cultural resource issues. He specializes in large, complex projects requiring compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the California Environmental Quality Act.

Brian R. Majka, Senior Professional in GEI’s Grand Rapids, MI office. Brian is a professional restoration ecologist with extensive experience in business management and development, project oversight, design and implementation of wetland construction, soft shoreline engineering, prairie planting, natural areas management, and best management practice (BMP) design projects. He has more than 16 years of experience in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Arizona, New York, and New Jersey. He is responsible for leading ecological restoration design and implementation projects for GEI.

Chris R. Abraham, P.E., Senior Project Manager in GEI’s Marquette, MI office. Chris has 17 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, providing overall project management, geotechnical engineering analysis and design, foundation subgrade evaluations, and design and construction recommendations to a wide variety of clients. He also has a wealth of experience in construction quality assurance and quality control for materials testing and construction oversight.

Craig A. Richardson, P.E., Senior Project Professional in GEI’s Iron River, MI office. Craig has 18 years of experience in the industry and specializes in funding assistance, studies, and design for municipal water and wastewater systems, civil site design, commercial development, and construction inspection experience.

Daniel R. Kopcow, P.E., PMP, Senior Professional, and Branch Manager in GEI’s Ithaca, NY office. Daniel is a chemical engineer with 29 years of experience in project management, environmental consulting, remediation, and construction. He is an expert in project and construction management, and serves as the lead engineer for execution of all phases of complex, multi-million dollar environmental programs and projects including turnkey delivery (investigation, design, construction management, and O&M).

Errol S. Kitt, Vice President and Branch Manager of GEI’s Long Island, NY office. Errol has nearly 35 years of experience as an environmental engineer managing and directing environmental projects located primarily in NY, NJ, CT, and PA. His diverse experience includes: investigation and remediation of NY State Superfund hazardous waste sites and former Manufactured Gas Plant sites; Phase I environmental site assessments; Phase II environmental subsurface investigations and associated remediation for real estate transactions; underground storage tank and underground injection control investigations including associated removal/closure and remediation, and the design of soil/groundwater remediation systems, sewage treatment plants, sanitary wastewater disposal, and industrial wastewater treatment systems.

George M. Meister, P.E., M.ASCE, Senior Project Manager in GEI’s Marquette, MI office. George has 16 years of experience and is a Professional Engineer licensed in multiple states. He provides civil engineering support on projects involving coastal works, infrastructure design/upgrade, site planning, storm water management, and construction oversight. As a consulting engineer, he has supported the design of coastal, municipal, private, and industrial projects. He has a wealth of professional experience in the planning and design of commercial properties, residential communities, and industrial sites.

James L. Christensen, P.E., Senior Geotechnical Engineer in GEI’s Boston, MA office. James has 11 years of experience in design and construction of excavation support systems and foundations for transportation, commercial, residential, and waterfront structures. Though his expertise includes a wide variety of geotechnical and structural engineering disciplines, he specializes in deep foundation design and excavation support systems including secant pile walls, slurry walls, soil nail walls, soldier pile and lagging, and sheet pile walls.

James E. Laubenthal, Senior Project Manager and Branch Manager of GEI’s Atlanta, GA office. Jamie has over 23 years of experience in the environmental field conducting numerous ASTM Phase I ESAs, Phase II investigations, soil and groundwater sampling, underground storage tank (UST) assessments and removals, and superfund removal, remediation oversight, and emergency response activities. Jamie is the leader of GEI’s asbestos consulting services practice and is an expert with federal and state asbestos regulations, currently managing corporate asbestos liabilities for several Fortune 100 companies with multiple facilities in the US and Canada. He also provides training, corporate policy preparation, and management for many clients on asbestos regulation.

Jamey A. Stynchula, P.G., Senior Project Manager in GEI’s Mount Laurel, NJ office. Jamey has 22 years of experience in the industry with regulatory programs in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. His knowledge of geology allows him to design and conduct numerous site characterization programs and site remediation through the investigation of environmental media including soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and soil vapor. As Geologist of Record for over 30 Act 2 sites in Pennsylvania, he has designed site remediation to be completed in conjunction with Brownfield redevelopment, considering site development plans and future use. In addition, he has experience supporting regulatory programs in Pennsylvania and New Jersey for ecological permitting and storm water management.

Joseph D. Roman, LSP, Senior Project Manager in GEI’s Boston, MA office. Joseph has 11 years of experience in the industry assessing human health exposure, evaluating toxicity data, characterizing human health risk, and developing risk-based clean-up goals for cost-effective remedies that are protective of human health. Joseph manages all aspects of environmental compliance projects, from initial investigation to regulatory closure.

Kathleen F. Stetser, P.G., LSRP, Senior Professional in GEI’s Mount Laurel, NJ office. Kathi has 21 years of experience in the industry and is a proven leader in the development and implementation of innovative and cost effective project closure/completion strategies for the remediation of complex industrial sites. She is a Licensed Site Remediation Professional in the state of New Jersey and a regulatory specialist in matters relating to ISRA, SRRA, ARRCS, property transfer, and litigation settlement support services.

Kendra E. Logan, AIA, LEED AP, GEI’s Architect of Record firm wide and the Architectural Director of New York Metro Area organizing and managing the architectural groups. She is an architect with 13 years of leadership experience in New York City (NYC) working with existing buildings, demonstrating expertise in forensics with building envelope and façade restoration techniques. She consistently delivers effective solutions that drive client satisfaction and loyalty among NYC property managers and attorneys, and is able to problem-solve complex building issues.

Leo H. Winternitz, Senior Consultant in GEI’s Sacramento, CA office. Leo has 38 years of experience in the industry and specializes in ecosystem restoration projects, and sensitive habitats and their relationship to water management in Northern California. In particular, he is an expert on water and environmental issues pertaining to the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and its major tributaries, and has authored or co-authored several professional articles on the subject.

Mark F. Stoor, P.E., Senior Project Professional in GEI’s Iron River, MI office. Mark has 16 years of experience in the industry and is a licensed civil engineer. He is an expert in the design and construction of municipal infrastructure, roads, wastewater treatment facilities, and on-site wastewater systems. Mark has helped both public and private clients obtain grants from many different funding agencies, navigating the requirements of multiple regulatory agencies, and providing cost-efficient solutions to meet their needs.

Mark J. Freitas, P.E., G.E., Senior Project Manager in GEI’s Oakland, CA office. Mark has more than 34 years of experience and successfully manages and provides senior-level direction on numerous geotechnical studies for a variety of structures, including levees, dams, treatment plants, manufacturing facilities, port facilities, roads, highways, bridges, commercial high-rise buildings, and large site developments. He is highly experienced in field exploration, data interpretation and site characterization, foundation analysis and design, seepage and stability analyses, pavement design, site grading, report preparation, and construction inspection. Recently, Mark has been involved with the evaluation and design of levee and dam remediation projects. Mark serves on the Board of the Bay Bridge Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) as the Grassroots Committee Chair.

Nicholas D. Miller, P.E., P.H., Senior Hydrology and Hydraulics Engineer in GEI’s Denver, CO office. Nicholas has 12 years of experience and provides hydrologic and hydraulic engineering services on projects across the country for many water agencies, irrigation districts, water companies, agricultural businesses, state, and county agencies. Nicholas is an expert in hydrology and hydraulics relating to dams, including the planning and design of dams, feasibility studies, spillways design and analysis, inlet and outlet works design, analysis of conduit and open channel flow, probable maximum flood (PMF) studies, and extensive hydraulic computer modeling.

Phillip L. Dunn, Vice President, Senior Project Manager, and Environmental Compliance Expert in GEI’s Sacramento, CA office. Phil is a water resources, environmental compliance, and fisheries expert specializing in complex California water and ecosystem projects. He has more than 35 years of experience in the industry and has directed more than 100 projects in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, nearly 150 projects for the California Department of Water Resources, 25 projects for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, and hundreds of projects for water districts, flood control districts, and other local entities in California.

Satya Gala, Ph.D., P.E., Senior Water Resources Engineer in GEI’s Sacramento, CA office. Satya has 16 years of experience in hydrology, hydraulics, flood management implementation, integrated flood and water supply planning, and project management. He has extensive experience as project manager and technical lead in evaluating water resources planning and management, integrated regional water management plans, and other long-range water resources planning efforts.
