May 31, 2016

Addition of coastal and waterfront engineering firm allows GEI to expand technical offerings

Boston, Mass. – May 31, 2016 – GEI Consultants, Inc., one of the nation’s leading geotechnical, environmental, water resources, and ecological science and engineering firms, announced today that Bourne Consulting Engineers (BCE), a coastal and waterfront engineering firm, has joined the firm. The deal closed on May 27, 2016. BCE will continue to service clients and conduct business out of their Franklin, Massachusetts office.

BCE, founded in 1991 by Ron Bourne, provides waterfront engineering services, including investigation, planning, regulatory approvals/permitting, design, and construction oversight for a variety of structures, including piers, wharfs, bulkheads, ferry terminals, shore protection, and dredging. They have distinguished themselves as a leader in the coastal and waterfront engineering sector serving both private and public sector clients including Boston Redevelopment Authority, Cape Verdean Port Authority, City of Bangor Maine, City of Rochester New York, Citgo, Government of Bermuda, Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation – Division of Waterways, Massachusetts Port Authority, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Massachusetts State College Building Authority, and Monmouth County New Jersey.

GEI President Raymond Hart, P.E., emphasized that “the addition of BCE strengthens GEI’s coastal and waterfront engineering practice and further diversifies GEI’s services. We anticipate a significant amount of waterfront work will be required over the next 20 to 50 years to prepare for climate change and sea level rise. The addition of BCE will allow GEI to be a leader in that market.”

“We are very excited to join GEI,” said Ron Bourne. “GEI’s national reputation for providing technical excellence, combined with BCE’s strength in coastal and waterfront engineering services, adds significant depth to GEI’s breadth of services and provides a great benefit to our clients.”

BCE currently employs 12 staff from their Franklin, Massachusetts office, while GEI employs more than 700 staff across the nation.
