August 3, 2022

Portland, ME (August 3, 2022) – Jacob “Jake” Dafni, Ph.D., P.E., has joined GEI’s Portland, ME office as a senior geotechnical engineer. Jake brings more than 16 years of data collection, design, management, construction, research, and teaching experience. He has worked with federal, state, local and private sector clients and has performed work internationally. He enjoys exercising his versatility but has an affinity for working on dam and transportation projects, especially when rock engineering is involved.

“Jake is an outstanding addition to GEI’s Portland office,” says Lissa Robinson, P.E., C.G., GEI’s Vice President and Portland Branch Manager. “He builds on the foundation of our local geotechnical team, and he expands our capabilities with his specialized expertise in rock mechanics. Jake’s comprehensive and diverse knowledge also includes instrumentation, geologic mapping, investigation, and analysis of soil and rock, both shallow and deep. With increased demand to evaluate potential soil and bedrock scour at dams and other high-risk sites, we are very excited to have Jake help support our client’s needs across the country.”

“I was attracted to GEI thanks to the firm’s rich history in the northeast, where I’m from and recently moved back to. I’m also impressed with GEI’s broad technical expertise and reach,” says Jake. “I’m excited to have access to diverse project opportunities, and a culture and people that promote collaboration and continued learning and development.”

Jake earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering and his M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington, both with a geotechnical focus, and his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Union College. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Washington.
