Dam Safety Expert John Onderdonk Joins GEI

Senior engineer brings expertise in safety inspections and FERC regulations

PASADENA, California, Aug. 22, 2024 – John Onderdonk has joined GEI Consultants as a Senior Dam Safety Engineer. John brings more than 30 years of experience in dam safety with a specific focus on the hydrologic, hydraulic, consequence assessment, and planning aspects of dam safety studies.

“We are extremely pleased to have John join Team GEI. He will help us strengthen our robust dams practice,” says Iqbal Ahmed, Senior Project Manager and Pasadena Branch Manager at GEI. “John’s regulatory experience with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will be especially useful in advising our clients as they deal with safety evaluations and compliance issues.”

John has extensive experience performing dam safety inspections, as well as providing technical guidance and mentoring, inspecting construction projects, and conducting quality control reviews.

“I chose GEI because they are well respected in the dam safety engineering community,” says John. “I hope to enhance GEI’s dam safety engineering projects by contributing my experience and knowledge in several disciplines within dam safety engineering.”

John holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering – Hydraulics from the University of California at Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Nevada in Reno. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Society of Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) and is a Board-Certified Member of the ASCE American Academy of Water Resources Engineers. John also holds a Professional Hydrologist Certification from the American Institute of Hydrology.
