Groundwater Expert Karen Miller Joins GEI

Miller brings more than 25 years of experience with California water resources.

SACRAMENTO, California, Jan. 7, 2026 – Karen Miller has joined GEI Consultants as a Senior Groundwater Leader. Karen is a water resources and planning professional with 30 years of experience, including 27 years working on specialized studies in California. Her specialties include water resources, groundwater, planning, hazardous waste investigation, stormwater, transportation, sustainability, and climate change.

“Karen brings decades of consulting experience serving clients with some of the most complex water resources needs in the nation,” says Christian Petersen, Vice President and Senior Hydrogeologist at GEI. “Given these experiences, and her passion for quality, we are thrilled to have Karen join our team and help us improve delivery to existing and future clients.”

Karen is well versed with California water supplies, constraints, and stakeholders, and has completed hydrogeologic investigations in many of the major southern California groundwater basins. Her technical expertise is complemented by excellent technical writing skills, and she has developed a wide range of planning documents. In addition, Karen helps her clients identify strategic funding for projects, preparing grant funding memos and successful grant applications.

Karen is a Registered Geologist (CA, WA, UT) and a Certified Hydrogeologist (CA). She earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Duke University and a Master of Science in Geology from Utah State University, with an emphasis on natural resources and climate change.
