Water Resources Management Expert Peter Kavounas Joins GEI

PASADENA, California, June 26, 2025 – Peter Kavounas, P.E. has joined GEI Consultants as a Senior Civil Engineer. With more than 40 years of experience in organizational leadership and management, Peter has a thorough understanding of groundwater management and retail water utilities in both the municipal sector as well as in special districts. Peter previously served as the City of Glendale’s Water Utility General Manager, and his experience includes retail water system planning, engineering, water quality control, operations, maintenance, and financing.

Peter also previously served as General Manager of the Chino Basin Watermaster, where he helped implement a groundwater management program, guided technical studies, and supported legal efforts for one of the largest adjudicated groundwater basins in California. In addition, Peter was an elected member of the Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency Board for 15 years, where he served in various leadership roles.

Peter holds a Master of Science in Water Resources from the University of Southern California and a Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota. Peter is a registered Professional Engineer in California.
