Chris Stransky
Senior Aquatic ScientistChris Stransky is a senior aquatic scientist in GEI’s Carlsbad, California office. Prior to joining GEI Chris was a group leader for an Aquatic Sciences and Toxicology specialty and Director of the Toxicology Laboratory which he designed and built with his Team. His experience and interests have centered on a wide variety of ecological risk assessment programs in support of regulatory compliance, as well as pushing the boundaries to develop and test new innovative methods for monitoring.
His passions include characterizing the health of the biological communities in marine and freshwater environments along with understanding causes of impairment and viable remedial solutions. Chris’s expertise centers on toxicology with specialized emphasis on assessment of water quality impacts to beneficial uses, the use of multiple lines of evidence including the State of California Sediment Quality Objectives (SQOs), toxicity identification and toxicity reduction evaluations (TIEs/TREs), in situ monitoring, and development of site-specific water quality criteria.
Chris has led multiple innovative projects that resulted in positive changes in several state-wide policies, individual NPDES Permits, TMDLs, and regional monitoring programs, as well as the publication of a number of peer-reviewed journal and news articles.
Chris received his B.A. in Aquatic Science from the University of California Santa Barbara and an M.S. in Ecology from San Diego State University.
Outside passions include surfing, diving, and exploring the outdoors through hiking & backpacking.
