Construction Management Leader Gary Olvera Joins GEI

Olvera brings extensive experience in heavy civil infrastructure and dams.

Portrait of Gary OlveraCARLSBAD, California, Sept. 17, 2024 – Gary Olvera has joined GEI Consultants as a Senior Construction Manager. Gary brings almost 40 years of experience in the construction industry, including 10 as a self-employed construction contractor, and 29 years of hands-on experience in the water industry.

Gary’s experience includes providing construction management and inspection management on heavy civil infrastructure projects for the San Diego County Water Authority. He will support the expansion of GEI’s Construction Management (CM) team in the San Diego area.

“We are very excited to welcome Gary to our CM team. He brings extensive experience and a proven track record of managing, mentoring, and building high performing CM teams,” says Violletta McDaniel, GEI’s West Region Construction Management Practice Leader. “Gary will provide leadership on large and complex construction projects, including several new roller compacted (RCC) dam projects.”

Gary has managed all aspects of CM projects. He has lead professional engineers, construction managers, construction inspectors, and in-plant factory inspectors in the construction and inspection of RCC dams, water main pipelines, tunnel construction, reline of steel pipelines, pump stations, hydroelectric facilities, flow control facilities, and tank reservoirs.

“I was drawn to GEI’s team atmosphere, and I’m excited by the opportunity to work on world class dam projects again,” says Gary. “I hope to assist in GEI’s expansion in the CM realm with large civil infrastructure projects in the region.”

Gary is a Certified Construction Manager by the Construction Management Association of America, where he also serves on the Board of Directors for the San Diego Chapter. He is honorably retired from the San Diego County Water Authority as Principal Construction Manager.
