Geothermal Engineer Masih Alavy Joins GEI

BOSTON, Massachusetts, Oct. 30, 2024 – Masih Alavy has joined GEI Consultants as a Senior Geothermal Engineer. He brings more than 12 years of experience in the design of ground-source heat pump (geothermal energy) systems for residential and commercial applications.
“Masih will be a key resource in helping our clients decarbonize their facilities and provide sustainable solutions for their energy needs,” says Mike Schultz, Boston Area Manager and Vice President at GEI. “He has unique skills in both the mechanical and civil engineering aspects of ground source heating and cooling. Masih will focus on growing our geothermal engineering practice.”
Masih’s specializes in designing heating and cooling systems. He has successfully led and collaborated with interdisciplinary teams of engineers, researchers, and scientists to create advanced geothermal energy system designs to decarbonize buildings.
“GEI has a strong reputation in engineering and environmental consulting, diverse project opportunities, a focus on professional development, collaborative culture, and commitment to sustainability,” says Masih. “I hope to grow the geothermal practice and be at the forefront of technology innovation designing ground-source heat pump systems for a variety of building types.”
Masih’s strong academic foundation complements his professional experience, particularly in research and development (R&D), where he has secured multiple external R&D funding opportunities from both governmental and private sectors.
He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). Masih has won numerous awards, most recently the 2023 Kirk T. Mescher Geothermal Innovation Award from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
